Zierbena

In the far north-east of Vizcaya, historical territory of the Basque Country (Euskal Herria), we find the municipality of Zierbena.

With a surface area of 10.5 Km2., its boundaries consist of the sea to the north, the municipality of Muskiz to the west, Santurtzi to the east, and Abanto to the south
Zierbena has a total population of approximately 1,200 inhabitants living in the six nuclei of which the municipality is composed: La Cuesta, La Arena, El Puerto, Valle, Kardeo and San Mamés. The capital, La Cuesta, is the geographical and administrative centre of the whole municipality.

Currently, Zierbena has focused its activity on the Port of Bilbao, which is held in high esteem as one of Europe's main ports, due to its advantageous geographical position among other factors.

The Zierbena has very good road and sea connections, thanks to the A-8 motorway - a large road network with scheduled bus routes - and the Port of Bilbao.
